Colours – This poster has used minimal colours, with the principal colours used being white, black and red. These make the poster seem very clear and cleanly finished. Each of the colours has connotations that link to the story of the film: the white symbolises purity and innocence (the white swan); the colour black is associated with power, elegance, death and evil; and the red is symbolistic of strength and passion.
The main image – the main image is a shot of the principal character. There is a lot of emphasis on her make-up which is stage make-up for her character’s role of the black swan. This immediately draws the audience in as it is mysterious and provokes questions in their minds.
Credits/titles – these are only at the bottom of the poster, which help to emphasise a simplistic poster. It gives the names of the actors playing principal roles, the institutions involved in the production, the release date and most importantly, the title. The font is in black and the style is uncomplicated which means that the eye is drawn immediately to the picture.
